The Challenge

Why Generic Barista Training Isn't Enough for Australia

Australian cafes operate differently. The coffee culture, menu, speed expectations, and customer slang are unique. Arriving in Melbourne or Sydney with generic training puts you at a disadvantage.

☕ Different Coffee Menu

Flat white, long black, magic, piccolo — these are Australian staples that aren't taught in standard Malaysian barista courses.

⚡ Higher Speed Expectations

Australian cafes serve 200+ customers per hour. You need to handle multi-order workflow under real pressure.

🗣️ Australian Cafe Slang

"Mate, I'll grab a flat white to go, extra hot, half-strength, with oat milk." Understanding Aussie coffee language is essential.

💼 No Local Knowledge

Walking into Melbourne without understanding Australian cafe culture puts you behind. Every cafe operates differently — knowing the unwritten rules gives you an edge.

📄 Wrong Resume Format

Australian employers expect a specific resume style. A Malaysian-format CV won't get you an interview.

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Working Holiday Visa before taking the course?
No. Many students take the course before applying for their visa. The skills and preparation you gain will strengthen your visa application and give you confidence for your job search.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. You will receive the Australian Barista Course Certificate from Cottle Academy. This is different from SCA certification — it's specifically designed to show Australian employers that you have been trained by an Australian industry expert.
How does the job-readiness coaching work?
During Day 3, Tristan walks you through everything you need to know about getting hired in Australia. This includes crafting an Australian-format resume (very different from a Malaysian CV), understanding what cafe managers actually look for, how to approach cafes in person, common interview questions, and your workplace rights as an employee in Australia. You'll leave with a completed resume and a clear action plan for your job search.
What if I don't have any barista experience?
Perfect. Days 1-2 cover everything from scratch — espresso, milk, latte art, cafe workflow. No prior experience needed. Day 3 builds on those skills with Australian-specific content.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. We offer 3-month payment plans through Samcart. You can also use Grab PayLater or Atome to split your payment into 4 interest-free instalments.
What if my cohort date doesn't work for me?
