Control the Roast. Own the Profile.
The SCA level that turns roast operators into roast masters. Two days of roast profile design, rate-of-rise control, defect diagnosis, and professional cupping -- capped by the official SCA Roasting Intermediate exams.
Why Self-Taught Roasting Hits a Ceiling
Roasting looks simple from the outside -- apply heat, wait for the crack. But without structured training, most home roasters spend months burning through green beans without understanding why their roasts fall flat.
Wasted Green Beans
Trial and error is expensive. Quality green coffee costs RM60-120 per kg -- guessing your way through roast profiles adds up fast.
Inconsistent Results
One great batch followed by three disasters. Without understanding rate of rise and heat management, you cannot repeat your successes.
No Professional Feedback
YouTube videos cannot taste your coffee. Without cupping your roasts alongside an expert, you never learn what went wrong -- or right.
Theory Without Practice
Reading about the Maillard reaction is not the same as hearing first crack, adjusting airflow mid-roast, and cupping the result an hour later.
No Recognised Credential
Self-taught skills are hard to prove. An SCA certificate gives you an internationally recognised credential that roasteries and cafes respect.
Learn inside a real multi-platform roasting lab.
Cottle Coffee Academy in Petaling Jaya is a multi-platform lab. Time on a given machine follows the teaching plan for your intake -- not a guaranteed rotation through every platform.
